It is a myth that only women in menopause need help with
hormone balance. Younger women are just as much in need of hormone balance for
a variety of hormonal conditions that can often be related to estrogen
dominance or progesterone deficiency.
bioidentical progesterone can help with PMS, PCOS, anovulatory cycles,
irregular or heavy periods and to help with fertility and miscarriage.
Lack of progesterone has been linked to a variety of
conditions in younger women and is often complicated by the fact that when
using contraception such as the Pill, Coil or Implant that they are then
subject to artificial progesterone in the form of progestins. Although they are
frequently told they are being given progesterone they are not told that it not
the actual hormone but a chemical substitute that mimics some of the actions of
progesterone but which does not have the same benefits.
These are some of the conditions for which younger women
have been helped by supplementing with bioidentical natural progesterone.
- PMS /
- Mood Swings
(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
- Weight gain
- Bloating /
- Low sex
- Postpartum Depression
What Can Go Wrong?
Many of these problems stem initially from two conditions: lack of ovulation
and/or estrogen dominance.
Reason 1 – Lack of ovulation
Ideally from the start of menstruation until menopause a woman should have a
regular monthly cycle during which ovulation will take place around
mid-cycle. However anovulatory periods (where no ovulation takes place)
can occur without any sign anything is wrong. Anovulatory cycles are
behind PMS, PCOS and infertility without any visible signs this is occurring.
So the young women will often believe that she has somehow done something wrong
that caused her condition.
Reason 2 – Estrogen Dominance
It is not generally realized that you can have estrogen dominance when you also
have low estrogen levels as it can still occur if your progesterone levels are
even lower than your estrogen. It is the ratio that is critical. Women need progesterone throughout their
lives as protection from estrogen dominance and the results of excess estrogen
which are linked to heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis. Don’t let it begin
when you are just in your teens, 20s, and even 30’s.
Why bioidentical hormones?
Younger women are often prescribed birth control pills (BCPs) to deal with
symptoms of PMS or heavy bleeding and believe it or not, acne. They are usually
told these pills contain progesterone, but they do not. Instead they contain
the synthetic hormone progestin which
is associated with breast cancer, stroke, blood clots and heart problems. BCPs are
synthetic! They shut down the entire reproductive system so you get NO
natural hormones from the ovaries and are receiving only the synthetic hormones
in the pill. This often makes women feel
horrible, gain weight and/or their libido is severely diminished! What an irony
for a young woman. She is taking birth control to prevent pregnancy, but often
has lost her youthful sex drive and has no desire for intercourse.
progesterone is a safer and better alternative to birth control pills and has
many benefits to the body including
energy and stamina
confusion and “foggy mind”
symptoms reduced or eliminated
and more youthful skin
moods and fewer mood swings
cortisol levels (the stress hormone)
lower trigylcerides / protect the heart
decrease/normalize blood pressure
